Museum construction update June 2010
The two Nissen huts are now constructed One will be used as a vistor centre and the other as exhibition space. The next stage is to fit out the interiors. The visitor centre has been fitted out with a kitchen/servery area and unisex toilet. We are making very positive progress considering we are relying on volunteers from our membership to complete most of the work. The commitment shown by these members led by Ron Tickner has been second to none. They spend an average one day a week on the site.
Our original plan was to complete and open the museum in 2010, this has now been amended to 2011. The delay has been caused by a major problem to connect mains electricity to the site. To overcome this problem we are going to generate our own power.
The trustees were all in agreement from the start of the project, that the museum would be constructed and fitted out to the best possible standards we could achieve, within the financial budget and the resources available to us, even if we had to delay opening.
Below is a collection of photos taken recently.
The airfield museum is expected to open in 2011. If you give us your email address we will send you the opening date when known. We will not pass on emails to anyone else. Click box below to leave email address.
