Our very best wishes for a happy and healthy new year

Remembrance Sunday November 13th
Anne Turner took part in the procession from the church in Nayland to the village war memorial where the last post was sounded, followed by two minutes silence at 11am. Wreath laying followed, Anne placed a wreath on the memorial seat dedicated to Charles Gumm which stands next to the Memorial. From Nayland we made our way to the Airfield memorial where we joined the residents of Langham in a short wreath laying service. John Pyle laid the wreath on behalf of Boxted Airfield Historical Group. A second wreath was laid on behalf of the villagers. At 1pm BAHG members and guests attended our main service at the Chapel within the Airfield Museum. The service was arranged by John Weston and Olive Martin. Olive also conducted the service. A floral tribute was laid by Arnold Haberman. Within the Chapel there is a memorial board that contains the names of the men that paid the ultimate price whilst serving at Boxted. Following additional research this board has recently been updated and a further twelve names were added. The military personnel files of the American servicemen were lost in a fire in the 1970s so it is quite time consuming to find the correct information.

Peter is awarded the Legion d’Honneur

We are very pleased and proud to record that Peter Potter has been awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French Government. He was notified by letter on the 1 September that the President of France had appointed him a Chevalier in the Ordre National De La Legion d’Honneur. This is in recognition of his participation in the Liberation of France in 1944-5. As Peter put it, we now have to call him Sir, but only in France. Our heartiest congratulations go to Peter on the occasion of this award.
John Camp
Peter was invited to take part in the Remembrance Sunday parade in London past the Cenotaph. He was part of a group of twelve representing “Churchill’s Secret Army”. Peter is believed to be the only surviving Auxiliaire the others taking part were family members of former Auxiliaires. On the 21st December Peter was presented with the award at Marina House in London by Francoise Jean a representative of the French Government.

Visit to the museum of the Roman Roadsters Classic Car Club
25 members of the car club took part in a Sunday morning drive on the 10th December, visiting the museum on route to a Christmas lunch at the Beehive pub in Little Horkesley. Richard conducted a tour of the site. The car club members were surprised how much history was on their doorstep. They stayed for about 2 hours and
made a generous donation.

BAHG Annual Christmas Lunch
On the 14th December 28 members gathered at Colchester's Garrison Officers Club for our annual Christmas Lunch. We had a set menu with Christmas trimmings plus our usual raffle. We raised £72 profit for Club funds on this event. Well done and thank you all and see you in 2017.

From the Treasurer.

End of February sees the end of this financial year for the group. Annual donations will be due on the 1st March. Annual Donations go a long way to help finance the workings of the group and we are able to keep them at the same level of £10 and £16 for two people at the same address once again. Gift Aid is a very important income for us as a group and our income from this has dropped significantly this year. Therefore I urge you all to complete the attached gift aid form and return to me with you donation. Please fill in this form (but don't tick the square box) even if you do not want to participate in Gift aid as it will help me to register gift aid
users correctly. You can send your form and Cheque made out in full to Boxted Airfield Historical Group to me at 92 Talbot Road Sudbury Suffolk CO10 1WE
or otherwise give to me at any forthcoming group meeting. Please do not send to any other address.
Many thanks
John Weston
